CO₂ Laser Skin Resurfacing in Bradford

From a Skin Refresh to Deep Resurfacing

Not every skin concern needs the same level of laser skin resurfacing.

At Arden Clinic, our advanced fractional CO₂ laser skin resurfacing treatments can be tailored from lighter resurfacing through to intensive deep resurfacing, allowing us to treat everything from skin texture and fine lines to more significant ageing, acne scarring and sun damage.

Your treatment depth is selected according to your skin, concerns, desired results and the amount of recovery time you are comfortable with.

What Is CO₂ Laser Skin Resurfacing?

CO₂ laser is an ablative resurfacing technology that creates controlled microscopic treatment zones within the skin.

This controlled injury triggers the skin’s natural repair response, encouraging renewal and collagen remodelling while improving the appearance of damaged or ageing skin.

By adjusting factors such as treatment depth, energy, density and coverage, we can personalise the intensity of treatment.

This allows us to offer both Light CO₂ Resurfacing and more intensive Deep CO₂ Resurfacing.

What Can CO₂ Laser Help With?

Following assessment, CO₂ laser skin resurfacing may help improve the appearance of:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Crepey skin
  • Ageing skin
  • Sun-damaged skin
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Enlarged-looking pores
  • Acne scarring
  • Selected surgical or traumatic scars
  • Skin laxity
  • Upper lip lines
  • Lines around the eyes
  • Nasolabial area
  • Stretch marks
  • Uneven pigmentation associated with photoageing

Treatment suitability depends on your skin type, medical history and the condition being treated.

Light or Deep CO₂ Skin Resurfacing?

One of the advantages of fractional CO₂ technology is that treatment intensity can be adjusted.

Light CO₂ Resurfacing

Designed for clients wanting noticeable skin renewal without committing to the recovery associated with deeper resurfacing.

It may be appropriate for concerns such as:

  • Fine lines
  • Mild sun damage
  • Uneven texture
  • Enlarged-looking pores
  • Early signs of ageing
  • Crepey skin
  • General skin rejuvenation

Typical recovery: approximately 2–3 weeks

Deep CO₂ Resurfacing

Our deeper resurfacing treatment is significantly more intensive. It may be considered for more advanced concerns such as:

  • Deeper wrinkles
  • Significant photoageing
  • More pronounced skin texture
  • Deeper acne scarring
  • Advanced skin damage
  • Pronounced lines around the mouth
  • More significant resurfacing requirements

Typical recovery: approximately 4–6+ weeks

Deep resurfacing requires careful client selection, preparation and aftercare. Redness or changes in skin colour can persist beyond the initial healing period.

What Does CO₂ Laser Treatment Feel Like?

CO₂ Skin resurfacing produces a significant warming or hot sensation as the laser passes across the skin.

Comfort measures will depend on the intensity and area being treated.

Deep resurfacing is a substantially more intensive procedure than a light treatment, and this will be discussed fully during your consultation.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

CO₂ resurfacing is not necessarily a treatment that needs to be performed frequently.

Some clients may achieve a noticeable improvement following one treatment, particularly when a more intensive resurfacing procedure is selected.

Others may benefit from additional treatments depending on:

  • Severity of the concern
  • Acne scar depth
  • Degree of sun damage
  • Skin quality
  • Treatment intensity
  • Individual healing response
  • Desired outcome

We would rather select the appropriate treatment for your skin than prescribe the same course to every client.

What Happens After Treatment?

Recovery depends heavily on the intensity of your CO₂ treatment. Following treatment, you should expect some degree of:

  • Redness
  • Heat and sensitivity
  • Swelling
  • Dryness and tightness
  • Bronzing or darkening
  • Flaking and peeling
  • Crusting
  • Temporary changes in skin texture

With deeper resurfacing, these reactions will generally be more pronounced and recovery considerably longer.

Newly treated skin will also be particularly sensitive to UV exposure.

Who May Not Be Suitable?

CO₂ laser resurfacing may not be suitable for everyone, including some clients who:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have an active skin infection
  • Have active cold sores in the treatment area
  • Have recently tanned skin
  • Are taking certain medications
  • Have conditions affecting wound healing
  • Have a tendency towards abnormal scarring
  • Have uncontrolled active inflammatory skin conditions
  • Have recently undergone incompatible treatments in the same area

Darker skin types require particularly careful assessment because ablative resurfacing carries an increased risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and other pigmentary changes.

Suitability and treatment intensity will always be determined during consultation.

Important Expectations

CO₂ Laser Skin resurfacing is a powerful treatment and should not be viewed as a zero-downtime facial.

Increasing treatment intensity can potentially produce greater resurfacing effects, but it also increases recovery time and the potential for complications.

Your recommended treatment will therefore be based on what is appropriate for your skin, rather than simply selecting the deepest available setting.

How Much Resurfacing Does Your Skin Actually Need?

From a lighter skin refresh to intensive resurfacing, we’ll assess your skin and recommend the appropriate level of treatment.

Disclaimer

Results and recovery times vary between individuals. The stated downtime ranges are approximate and should not be interpreted as guaranteed healing times. A consultation is required before treatment.

CO₂ laser skin resurfacing carries potential risks including prolonged redness, swelling, discomfort, infection, acne or milia flares, cold-sore reactivation, delayed healing, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, persistent pigment changes and scarring.

More intensive treatment generally involves greater downtime and risk. Your practitioner will discuss treatment suitability, expected recovery, potential complications and realistic outcomes before proceeding.

Frequently Asked Questions

The main differences are treatment intensity, depth, recovery and the type of concern being treated.

Light resurfacing is designed to provide skin renewal with a more manageable recovery period. Deep resurfacing creates a substantially greater controlled injury and is reserved for clients requiring more significant correction.

Yes, visible improvement can occur following a single appropriately selected treatment. However, the degree of improvement varies and no specific result can be guaranteed.

No. More aggressive treatment also means greater inflammation, recovery and risk. The most appropriate depth is the one that balances your skin concern, skin type, desired result and acceptable downtime.

Yes. Fractional CO₂ resurfacing can improve the appearance of selected atrophic acne scars. Different scar types respond differently, and deeper or tethered scars may require combination treatments.

Collagen remodelling following CO₂ resurfacing can improve the appearance of skin quality and firmness. It should not, however, be presented as an alternative to surgical lifting where significant laxity is present.

Selected clients can have the periocular area treated following assessment. Because the eye area requires specialist precautions and appropriate ocular protection, suitability must be established before treatment.

Initial improvement becomes apparent as the skin heals, but collagen remodelling continues over the following months. The final result should therefore not be judged immediately after the initial recovery period.
